Hi readers! Today we will see about Loktak lake, Caves of Meghalaya, Palolem Beach, Nilgiri Hills.
Loktak lake
Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in North East India and is famous for the phumdis (heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil and organic matter at various stages of decomposition) floating over it. The lake is located at Moirang in Manipur state, India.
The etymology( is the study of the history of words) of Loktak is Lok = "stream" and tak = "the end".
Caves of Meghalaya
The Caves of Meghalaya comprise a large number of caves in the Jaintia, Khasi Hills and Garo Hills districts in the Indian state of Meghalaya, and are amongst the longest caves in the world. Of the ten longest and deepest caves in India, the first nine are in Meghalaya, while the tenth is in Mizoram. The longest is Krem Liat Prah in the Jaintia Hills, which is 30,957 m (101,600 ft). The word "Krem" means cave in the local Khasi language( local language of meghalaya).
Palolem Beach
Palolem Beach is situated in Canacona in southern Goa, India. The beach attracts many international tourists, mainly during the winter season between November and March. It is considered to be one of the region's most beautiful beaches. Palolem Beach is largely unspoiled and is inhabited by both local fishermen and by foreign tourists who live in shacks along the shore or in the main village itself. It is about one mile (approximately 1.61 km) long and is crescent-shaped; one can view the entire beach from either end.
Nilgiri Hills
The Nilgiri Mountains form part of the Western Ghats in western Tamil Nadu, India. Over 2,700 species of flowering plants, 160 species of fern and fern allies, countless types of flowerless plants, mosses, fungi, algae, and land lichens are found in the sholas of the Nilgiris. No other hill station has so many exotic species. It is also home to mammals like Bengal tiger , Indian elephant , Indian leopard , Chital deer , Sambar deer ,Nilgiri tahr, Sloth bear etc. The Indian python, King cobra and Mugger crocodile are reptiles found here. Primates such as Lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, Gray langur and Bonnet macaque.The birds found here are Indian peacock , Nilgiri laughing thrush , Nilgiri flycatcher, Great hornbill and Malabar grey hornbill .
