Your choice

Hi! I hope you all are having a good day. Today i am.....WAIT! I am not going to tell the topic. At the end of the post you decide a topic for this post and let me know your choice through the comments.

Now to the main content.

vaccine provides a controlled exposure to a pathogen(a biological agent that causes disease or illness to its host.), training and strengthening the immune system so it can fight that disease quickly and effectively in future. By imitating an infection, the vaccine protects us against the real thing.

Now, what is polio ?

Polio, in full poliomyelitis, is  acute viral infectious disease of the nervous system that usually begins with general symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle pains and spasms and is sometimes followed by a more-serious and permanent paralysis of muscles in one or more limbs, the throat, or the chest. More than half of all cases of polio occur in children under the age of five. It also has no cure.

Now, How can we stop getting this?

You know that they have given you polio drops when you were a baby. This is one type of vaccine called the oral polio vaccine and they give you injections of four doses at 2 months, 4 months, 6-8 months and at the age of 4 or 5 . This vaccine is called Inactivated Polio vaccine. We cannot cure it but prevent it . you see in many clinics or hospital that shows. Prevention is better than cure. So if we have that vaccine correctly then you would not suffer that polio.

It is all fine. Do you know who found the polio vaccine and how ? Let us see that now.

Dr. Jonas Salk's vaccine found  in 1953

Salk's vaccine was unusual because instead of using a weakened version of the live virus, , Salk's vaccine used a "killed," or inactivated, version of the virus. When the "dead" poliovirus is injected into the bloodstream, it can't cause an infection because the virus is inactive; but the immune system can't distinguish an activated virus from an inactivated one, and it creates antibodies to fight the virus. Those antibodies persist and protect the person from future poliovirus infection.

In 1953, Salk began testing his inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) on a small number of former polio patients in the Pittsburgh area and on himself, his wife and their three sons. The initial results were promising. It was an Inactivated Polio Vaccine.

Dr. Albert Sabin's vaccine found in 1963.

While Salk was developing his inactivated polio vaccine, his professional rival, virologist Dr. Albert Sabin at the University of Cincinnati, was working on a vaccine made with active, but weakened, virus. Sabin opposed Salk's vaccine design and considered an inactivated virus vaccine to be dangerous.

By 1963, Sabin had created an oral live-virus vaccine for all three types of poliovirus that was approved for use by the U.S. government. Sabin's version was cheaper and easier to produce than the Salk vaccine, and it quickly supplanted the Salk vaccine in the U.S.

Sabin's oral polio vaccine (OPV) was critical for helping to decrease the number of polio cases globally, but unlike the Salk vaccine — which carries no risk of paralysis — the OPV carries an extremely small risk of causing paralysis.

Polio cases are now decreasing slowly.

Hope you enjoyed and learned more. And Identified what is polio and how it was found by the two great people. Hope you found a perfect topic for this content. Please give your choice in the comment so i would feel you completely understood the content.
Until then,
Signing off,
