More in Detail (Part 4)

Hi Readers! I am back with More In Detail(Part 4). And as i told you all this blog contains five places. And those are Pangong Tso, Khatling Glacier, Ghats in Varanasi, Sand dunes In Jaisalmer, Lake Pichola.

Pangong Tso

Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake is 134 km (83 mi) long and divided into five sublakes, called Pangong TsoTso NyakRum Tso (twin lakes) and Nyak Tso. Approximately 50% of the length of the overall lake lies within Tibet, 40% in Ladakh and the rest is disputed but controlled by China.During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water.

Khatling Glacier

Khatling glacier is located in district Tehri Garhwal of Uttarakhand, the state which is known for his high, calm and beautiful hills. Khatling glacier is a very important glacier of Garhwal Himalayas due to the the source of Bhilangna River. Around the glacier there is a thick snow capped of Himalayan peaks which is known as the Jogin group, Sphetic Pristwar , Barte Kauter , Kirti Stambh  and Meru.

Ghats in Varanasi

Ghats in Varanasi are riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganges. The city has 88 ghats. Most of the ghats are bathing and puja ceremony ghats, while two ghats are used exclusively as cremation sites. Many ghats are associated with legends or mythologies while many ghats are privately owned. Morning boat ride on the Ganges across the ghats is a popular visitor attraction. Most Varanasi ghats were rebuilt in the 18th century, when the city came under Maratha rule.

Sand dunes of Jaisalmer

There are a total of 3 popular sand dune area in Jaisalmer which are:

  • Sam sand dunes
  • Khuri sand dunes
  • Lodhruva sand dunes

Here Sam Sand Dunes is quite popular among travellers, as this area of 3-5 km has pure sand with no plants, along with desert camps, camels & jeeps for Jaisalmer desert safari tours and a spot which is now called as Sam sunset point.

Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is  situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village. Two islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are located within Pichola Lake, and have been developed with several palaces to provide views of the lake.

There are four islands on the lake:

  • Jag Niwas, where the Lake Palace is built.
  • Jag Mandir, with the palace of the same name.
  • Mohan Mandir, from where the king would watch the annual Gangaur festival celebration.
  • Arsi Vilas, small island which was an ammunition (a supply or quantity of bullets and shells)depot, but also a small palace.

  2. Do you know why fear of spiders is called arachnophobia?
The goddess Athena turned a skilled weaver named Arachne into the first spider because she claimed to be better than Athena at weaving. And I don't know if she WAS better or not.
